    •  Supervise the day to day duties of the San Francisco IT site and any future IT personnel
    • Mentor junior level technicians to continually improve customer service
    • Work with desktop engineering and other groups to advance technologies to improve business performance and IT reliability
    • Provide hardware and software support services for client technologies
      • Linux/Unix engineering workstations
      • Windows PC - including backup and desktop encryption software (McAfee, PGP, etc.)
      • Mobile Device support
      • Printer setups, moves and training of site personnel
      • Collaboration Tool support (Skype for Business, Webex, etc)
      • A/V Equipment (Polycom, Microsoft Surface Hub)
      • Active Directory administration and tool support
    • Work closely with the Linux/Unix team to troubleshoot and resolve issues
    • Perform troubleshooting, issue resolution, and root cause analysis for any IT issues at the local site
    • Maintain other computer peripheral devices such as printers and A/V equipment and solve problems as they arise.
    • Assist and train local site employees in the utilization of provided technologies and systems
    • Monitor and test computer and network systems to ensure they are functioning properly
    • Physical set up and adds/moves/change of computers and related peripherals
    • Perform required upgrades and maintenance and coordinate scheduled outages with other Rambus IT staff
    • Order and buy computer systems, peripherals, and supplies to support local business needs after consulting with IT staff
    • Supervise local vendor performance  for contracted IT services
    • Represent BU in IT/Engineering Council
      • Be able to identify business needs and opportunities and execute on plans
    • Manage computer room and local IT infrastructure
      • Maintain UPS maintenance
      • Troubleshoot basic infrastructure (DNS, blade chassis, server/network hardware)
      • Update PDU and equipment maps
      • Manage LAN terminal server, and KVM
    • Manage Network
      • Patch network, phone, and telecom ports
      • Manage structured cabling
      • Configure network ports
      • Troubleshoot  wireless, LAN, and WAN
      • Manage local telecom needs and call support during outages
    • Manage projects such as expansions and moves (structured cabling, networking – add WAP’s, network switches, phones), including planning, budgeting, purchasing, and vendor management, etc.
    • Keep inventory (cables, network ports, phones, desktops, laptops, server room equipment)


    • Other work
      • Resolve issues escalated from Level 1 support requiring elevated privileges or local site knowledge
      •  Monitor infrastructure and configure monitoring tools
      • Document “as built” and “run books” for implemented systems
    • Business Unit Specific Support:
      • Lab and equipment maintenance, provide general lab workstation support


    • Carry out other duties as requested by Rambus IT  or BU management

    Key Job Skills


    • Five years’ experience supporting Unix/Linux desktop hardware and software 
    • Three years ‘ experience supporting Windows PC systems
    • Familiar with corporate IT support processes and security policies
    • Well versed in various client technologies, hardware platforms, and operating systems
    • Strong networking skills (CNA or Network + level preferred)
    • Telecom and A/V experience
    • PC and network security (including Anti-virus) experience
    • Experience managing vendors
    • Experience with host machine cloning using  imaging software
    • Proven ability to identify IT process and infrastructure needs and specify/implement improvements
    • Ability to support multi-site audio/video conferencing and collaboration
    • Willingness to take on supporting and maintaining new IT technologies dictated by business requirements
    • Deep knowledge of Unix/Linux internals administration, configuration and scripting
    • PC system hardware expertise including knowledge of PCI express troubleshooting and configuration
    • Electronics lab equipment maintenance and support, including measurement equipment (i.e oscilloscopes etc.)
    • NetApp storage experience is a plus
